How Much Does a Thermal Imaging Inspection Cost?

How Much Does a Thermal Imaging Inspection Cost?

This one of the most common questions we get asked, and its has a simple answer: it depends on numerous factors.  When we sit down to work out our fee proposal for a Thermal imaging inspection, we ask the client a number of questions:

                  • What is the type and size of building.
                  • How much preparation is required.
                  • The amount of time required to safely undertake the survey.
                  • The type of equipment required to undertake the inspection.
                  • The project location and subsequent travel costs/time
                  • The required deliverables: in other words what needs to be included within the thermal survey report.
                  • The amount of health and safety requirements i.e., some sites ask for a 4-hour induction.

Our Typical Thermal Imaging Survey Prices

We pride ourselves from being able to offer a basic electrical thermal survey from as little as £395 plus Vat, right up to the huge industrial areas that may be over £10,000 plus Vat and everything in between. It’s always best to call us to so we can get a more accurate overview of our project and quote; accordingly, so please contact us to discuss your project (along with any site specific issues) and obtain a quote.

Is APT the cheapest thermal imaging company?

Well yes and no, sometimes we have secured thermal imaging contracts for both small and large projects purely on price.; however, if you look hard enough online I’m sure you may find a cheaper company. We strive to offer the best service to our customers using highly trained engineers using the best equipment, this allows us to do the job properly, at a competitive price for a professional job. In our experience that how we secure satisfied and repeat customers. Of course, we have lost some business as we are slightly more expensive; however this is because the other companies had used inexperienced people using low end equipment – the old say ‘you get what you pay for’ is true in many instances.

Can we forward a thermal survey price list?

Unfortunately, as every job is different, we do not forward standard price lists because. Even a basic house survey may be quite different due to size, location etc.  Undertaking a thermographic inspection for your property is not like buying a Homebuyers Report which is more standardised item. A thermographic inspection is a completely bespoke service. Even when following industry standards, it is very much in our thermal engineers’ hands to decide how and when to conduct the survey and how much to report on, using his experience and the type of equipment that’s being used at the time.

Our fixed price principle

We try to keep our quoting as streamlined and easy as possible, so the client has clarity when placing their order. In most cases we will supply a fixed price which we will always try to commit to. We try not to provide minimum fees or call out charges. We don’t usually quote using a day-rate principle, as it is impossible for most clients to have any idea how long it will take us to undertake and complete our works.

It’s worth noting that we spend a significant time planning each survey, which you do not see. This means we have studied the drawing/s and specification/s prior to attending site, which allows us to undertake our survey more quickly and efficiently which means seldom does a survey take more than half a day or 4 hours.

Some types of survey are easier to undertake than others, for instance a simple heat loess survey will be much easier than an electrical survey of hundreds of individual electrical boards. However, on the flipside a standard heat loss survey is easier to predict; but, may have more extensive reporting and anti-social survey times, i.e., the survey needs to start prior to sunrise (solar loading) which may be as early as 4am in summer – we really are up with the birds.

We often request to survey in anti-social hours. This is not for fun but is to make sure we have the best conditions reasonably possible to get the best result for you.

What we include in our survey as standard

All our thermal imaging engineers are trained to level 3, which is the highest level you can achieve as a thermographic engineer. We also use large format thermal imaging cameras; this provides you with the absolute best chance of solving any potential issues by utilising thermographic technology. We also have some of the best reportage in the industry using our own advanced software.

Our specification includes:

                  • Level 3 thermographic certification
                  • Level 3 qualified thermographers
                  • Large format FLIR cameras with 45-degree lenses
                  • The latest advanced software.

The importance of robust reportage

We spend much a large amount of time on our reportage, that’s why it’s one of the best in the industry, this is obviously a part of the service which is off site and clients don’t see. Whilst we may draw initial conclusions on site, which may need more investigation; usually, our final conclusions and report will only be finalised after all the data has been studied. It’s our ongoing aim to provide thermographic reports that are clear and easy to reference.

Please contact us for more information
