Water Efficiency Calculations
Water efficiency calculations are required by the Government in the United Kingdom under Building Regulations Part G.
All new dwellings and commercial developments require water calculations to help ensure that they have suitable water provisions to accommodate proposed activities. Additionally, water efficiency calculations also help to ensure that the maximum amount of water being used by a person within a property or development does not exceed a limit of 125 litres of water, per person each day.

Section G of the Building Regulations states that you need to achieve the minimum efficiency standards for water calculations. If you have a new project/development, or are converting an existing development for a new purpose such as commercial into dwellings, it is likely that you will require water calculations performed to attain building control signoff.

1. WC (single flush) – Enter the flushing volume of the WC in litres and the number of WCs in the dwelling. If no single flush WCs are installed please leave cells blank and fill in the details for dual flush WCs.
2. WC (dual flush) – Enter the full flush and part flush flushing volumes of the WC in litres and the number of WCs in the dwelling. If no dual flush WCs are installed please leave cells blank and fill in the details for single flush WCs.

4. Taps (excluding kitchen/utility room taps) – Enter the flow rate of these taps, at full flow rate in litres per minute and the number of these taps in the dwelling. Taps on baths should not be included.
5. Bath – Enter the total capacity of the bath to overflow, in litres and the number of baths in the dwelling.
6. Shower – Enter the flow rate of each shower at the outlet using cold water in litres per minute and the number of showers in the dwelling.
7. Kitchen/utility room sink taps – Enter the flow rate of these taps, at full flow rate in litres per minute and the number of these taps in the dwelling. Taps on baths should not be included.
8. Washing machine – Enter the litres per kilogram of dry load from the figure quoted on the EU Energy Label. Where no washing machine is to be provided and therefore consumption figures are unknown, a default figure of 8.17 litres per kilogram will be used.
9. Dishwasher – Enter the litres per place setting from the figure quoted on the EU Energy Label. Where no dishwasher is to be provided and therefore consumption figures are unknown, a default figure of 1.25 litres per place setting will be used.

10. Is a waste water disposal unit installed in the dwelling?
Where present, a standard consumption of 3.08 litres per person per day will be used.
11. Is a water softener installed in the dwelling?
If yes additional information will be requested to complete the calculation.
12. Is a grey water recycling system installed in the dwelling?
If yes additional information will be requested to complete the calculation. Grey water recycling systems recycles bath and shower water for reuse in the dwelling such as WC flushing.
13. Is rain water recycling system installed in the dwelling?
If yes additional information will be requested to complete the calculation. Rainwater recycling systems collect rainwater for use inside and outside the dwelling such as WC flushing, washing machines, washing cars etc.
