Clients often ask APT Sound Testing what acoustic design measures they need to improve the sound insulation results on their projects to pass Part E Sound Testing.
In our experience the main considerations for a separating wall and floor between dwellings generally has at least one of five key factors. If used together or in various combinations they will improve sound insulation properties over a wide range of frequencies. The main factors are:
- Mass
- Isolation
- Absorption
- Resilience
- Stiffness
Unfortunately, simply constructing a good separating wall or floor may not in itself provide sufficient sound insulation and you could end up with a sound test failure as shown in he video below:
APT Sound Testing can advise on all types of acoustic design, whether it’s accomplished during initial construction or during a refurbishment/renovation project. We have the technical experience to help identify and rectify your soundproofing or noise control problem.
